Croquet Australia is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jim Clement, a long-serving and respected member of both Croquet Victoria and Croquet Australia, following a period of illness.
Jim was a dedicated and active contributor to croquet across all levels — club, regional, state, national, and international. While best known as a golf croquet player, Jim also explored association croquet in recent years, always demonstrating his enthusiasm for the sport in every form.
Jim’s contribution to croquet began in 2005 when he established the Sarsfield Croquet Club. When the club later closed, he continued his involvement through memberships at Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, and Sale clubs. His journey into refereeing and coaching began at Sarsfield and evolved into a distinguished career as a Golf Croquet referee, officiating at every level — from local competitions to world championships.
Administratively, Jim’s legacy is remarkable. He served as Secretary of Croquet Victoria from 2010 to 2016, a period marked by his deep commitment to good governance, process, and collaboration. He went on to serve as President of Croquet Victoria from 2016 to 2022, providing steady and thoughtful leadership through years of growth and challenge.
At the national level, Jim contributed to Croquet Australia in several key capacities, including as Secretary, Treasurer, Integrity Officer, National Referee Coordinator and National Handicapper. His professionalism and deep knowledge of the game earned him the respect and friendship of all who worked alongside him.
Jim Clement will be remembered as a stalwart of Australian croquet - a leader, mentor, and gentleman of the sport.
Croquet Australia extends its sincere condolences to Jim’s family, friends, and the croquet community who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
