Trans Tasman Test Series Our best wishes go with our team of Bruce Fleming (Captain), Trevor Bassett, Stephen Forster, Simon Hockey. Helene Thurston, Creina Dawson, Shirley Carr and Margaret Melville, coach George Latham and manager Gary Fox. We will all be closely following results coming from the Trans Tasman Test Series that is to be played in Paraparaumu (near Wellington NZ) on 21-28 February. We have recently been reminded by the Australian Sports Commission that access to their free Club Development Network is available on the internet at www.ausport.gov.au/clubs The Club Development Network is a free web based program that supports the development and management capacity of sporting clubs so that they are able to provide the best possible service to their members. All clubs should investigate this opportunity. For further information please refer to the web site or phone 1300 130 121. The 6th WCF World Golf Croquet Championships will be held in England on 20-27 June 2004 at the Sussex and Compton Park Croquet Clubs. There will be a total of 64 places in the event. Australia will have 3 places in the initial allocation and State Secretaries have been asked to advise the undersigned of any players in their State who are available for selection. It is possible that wild card places will become available at a later date. There will be a qualifying tournament with up to 16 players to be completed by 16th June 2004 and from this the first 4 placings will qualify for entry to the Championships. We are pleased to advise that Valerie Lefel from Victoria has taken on the position National Director of Golf Croquet. The idea of this is to expand and co-ordinate golf croquet in all States. It will be a good step forward to see players from all States competing in the annual National Golf Croquet Championships. In due course we hope to see all States with a Golf Croquet Co-ordinator appointed, as some already have this position filled. Valerie can be contacted on Ph 03 5470 6639. During 2003 Kenn Boal accepted the position of Director of Schools Croquet. Kenn is now able to expand the work he has been doing in his home State of Victoria to other States. In Victoria we now have Aussie Croquet Regional and State School Championships. The first venture was into NSW where Kenn visited 5 clubs in 2003 and was able to assist and encourage them in their Aussie Croquet programs at their local schools. He has more recently visited Tasmania and carried out a similar programs in both Launceston and in Hobart. Later in the year our Director of Gateball, Keith McLeod is planning to do work interstate in the development of Gateball with croquet clubs in South Australia. Although Gateball is getting established in some States, other States have yet to get the sport up and running.
